Former Ghanaian defender John Arwuah has been appointed coach of Amazulu FC's reserve team.

The former Golden Arrows guardsman has ventured into coaching after injuries truncated his career.

The 32-year has confirmed his retirement from football as starts a new career in coaching.

"So I have officially retired from football because of these injuries," Arwuah tells KickOff.com

"I recently went to the USA to do my development courses and I've completed them.

"At the moment I'm assisting Ayanda Dlamini voluntarily at AmaZulu's MDC team.

"As much as I love to work and play I can't do the same thing, so I just don't have to push it."

Arwuah explained why he opted to do a four-month coaching course in the US earlier this year.

"I invested a lot in myself to go to the United States and do the coaching courses. It took a lot of money out of me," says Arwauh, who is the cousin of AmaZulu first team player Samuel Darpoh.

"I spent four months there doing those courses. I know that we do courses in South Africa but there it is at a more intense level and they focused a lot on the four levels of development.

"Coaching now, it is something that I want to do. I'm so happy about it so I'm hoping for that breakthrough now."

Arwuah, who arrived in South Africa in 2005 when he joined Tembisa Classic, played for a few PSL clubs in his career, as well as briefly for Cypriot outfit AEL Limassol.

He notably won the 2012 Nedbank Cup with SuperSport United and 2013 Telkom Knockout with Bloemfontein Celtic, while he also helped Maritzburg United gain promotion to the topflight in 2008.
