From some memorable quotes to an unwavering belief in his own ability that has not always quite matched up with performances on the pitch, Nicklas Bendtner is certainly one footballer that cannot be accused of lacking supreme self-confidence.

While the former Arsenal, Birmingham and Sunderland striker was once fined and banned for one match over an ill-advised underpants stunt, he briefly decided to wear none at all as he relaxed on a recent trip to the picturesque Atlantis Paradise Island.

Bendtner, who has revived his career in Norway with Rosenborg, took to social media on Sunday evening to post a racy snap of himself wading into a lake in the buff alongside the caption ‘Aquaman’.

‘Was fencing with the fish’, the Danish international joked with Inter Milan winger, Ivan Perisic in an inevitably jam-packed comments section.

Aquaman is the latest superhero character to be adapted for the silver screen, with the next instalment of the DC Extended Universe due out in December.

Bendtner was left out of Denmark’s 23-man squad for the recent World Cup due to a groin injury sustained on club duty and watched on from home as his compatriots reached the last 16 in Russia before succumbing to Perisic’s Croatia on penalties.

An Eliteserien winner in 2017 and currently over halfway through the latest Norwegian domestic season, he featured for Rosenborg last week during a Champions League qualifying second-round clash against Celtic.
