A 22-year-old man has been lynched by irate youth after he allegedly murdered a farmer and attacked a chief at Aburokyire, a farming community in Offinso in the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, identified only as Awineme, allegedly murdered one Osei Kwabena, a caretaker farmer of the chief, in a bush on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
Speaking to this reporter, a resident said the suspect returned home after the incident and attacked the chief, inflicting severe machete wounds on him.
"He came home drenched in blood. He announced that he had killed Osei Kwabena, so when the chief tried to understand the situation, he started attacking him," the resident recounted.
"The chief, Nana Osei Bonsu, is also battling for his life at St. Patrick Hospital in Offinso, and we have been told doctors may amputate one of his hands due to the injuries."
According to the witness, the suspect went ahead in an attempt to attack another person, incurring the wrath of some youth in the area.
"All attempts to stop him proved futile, so they used lethal means, with some resorting to beating him with sticks," the witness added.
The suspect reportedly died after the mob attack.
The bodies of both the deceased have been deposited at the morgue while police have commenced investigations into the incident.
