WISA Executive Director Commends Alberta Ampomah For Winning 2 Gold Medals At Africa Armwrestling Championship

Madam Gloria Commodore, Executive Director of Women In Sports Association (WISA) has commended Ghana’spremier female Armwrestling official and participant, Alberta Ampomah for braving through the storm to clinch 2 gold medals for the Golden Arms of Ghana at the just ended Africa Armwrestling Championship.

The event took place at the Hathiramani Sports Hall in Accra, Ghana where 13 countries were represented.

Among the nations were host nation, Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, Cameroun, Uganda, Benin, Egypt and Morocco.

The president of the African Armwrestling Federation, Zien Elhoary from Egypt was present and he was very happy with the grand hospitality offered him and the culture of dance and music in Ghana which he loved so much, also in Ghana was the General Secretary of the World Armwrestling Federation, Romanian, Mircea Simonescu Simicel who also said Ghana is a lovely country, and expressed that the Accra 2018 Africa Armwrestling Championship was a huge success.

Ghana, the host nation hauled 88 medals made up of 31 gold, 32 silver and 26 bronze. In total Ghana has 777 points to finish first.

Nigeria was second and Mali third, with Egypt coming in fourth, Togo fifth and Cameroun were sixth.

Alberta Ampomah of the Ghana Police Service won two gold medals, and she was very proud of representing her country and winning 2 gold medals.

She also officiated in the Championship as a referee and excelled.

Alberta who was watched by the Executive Director of Women In Sports Association (WISA) said she was self-motivated and highly inspired by the presence of her fans and WISA member at the Sports Hall.

Last year in Nigeria, she won many medals and has done it again.

The Weightlifting and Armwrestling champion of Ghana and Africa said more females should go into sports because there are many benefits.

She thanked the President of the GAF for giving her the exposure and WISA for the inspiration and dedicated her gold medals to all women who do sports.
