Accra, Sep. 30, GNA - Mr Derek Williams, former European and Commonwealth Heavyweight champion is in Ghana to hunt for boxing talents to nurture them into prospective world champions.
Mr Williams who is in the country for the first time is accompanied by Mr Al Hamilton, Chairman of the Commonwealth Sports Awards, said he considers Ghana as a country with abundant boxing talents and this therefore motivated him to look for investment opportunities in the field.
The former heavyweight champion who had his first observation of Ghanaian boxers on Friday, September 30, at the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex in Accra, is looking forward to bring potential Ghanaian boxers under one promotional syndicate to arrange fights for them in America and Europe.
Mr William said he would form a partnership with the Ambition Boxing Promotion in his bid to get the right calibre of boxers needed for his project.
He praised Osmanu Yahaya, Commonwealth Light Middleweight Champion for his recent exploits in England, which saw him retaining his title against John McNeil. The boxer turned promoter indicated that the performance of the Ghanaian was the main factor that lured him into the country and expressed the conviction of unearthing similar talents in the country. 30 Sept. 05
