Communications Member of Dreams FC, Jerome Otchere has called on the National Sports Authority and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to shut down the Accra Sports Stadium completely.
Sections of the state-owned facility remain closed to the public after the Isaac Asiamah who is the Minister of Sports visited the venue last year.
Renovation works on the Accra Sports stadium is yet to begin since the facility was shut down in April of last year.
Ahead of the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League campaign, Hearts of Oak and Inter Allies have been granted the go-ahead to use the venue as their home grounds but the former Editor of Kotoko Express believes it is about time the Stadium is shut down completely.
Speaking on Grand Stand on Class FM on Monday, he said, “Once we see that this structure is not good for human beings to go and sit under it let it be shut down so that whatever has to be down is being down.
“Engineers have looked at it and they have said it has to be shut down for renovation works to begin and people come with sentiment and appeal that we want you to allow us to use the place but when there is a disaster, sentiment will be nothing.
“People will be asking questions why you allowed them to go there whiles you knew the place is not safe and that is science. In this country we have allowed sentiment rule us a lot of times when you should have been scientific,” he added.
