Seven Amateur Boxers To Represent Ghana At 2018 Commonwealth Games

There are 24 men and 5 women boxers of the national boxing team, Black Bombers who are continuing with their non-residential camping at the Accra Sports Stadium under Coaches Ofori Asare and Akai Nettey as Team Ghana intensify preparations for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia in April.

All the 29 strong, skilful and talented boxers have the ambition of travelling to have an opportunity to have a change in life, but reports reaching Yours Truly state that only seven amateur boxers would represent Ghana at the 2018 Gold Coast Games.

For the coaches, they are sad that after all the many days of shaping up only a few would get the opportunity.

Coach Asare viewed that if Ghana is represented at all the ten weight categories, the chances of winning more medals could be boasted.

He noted that all the boxers in camp are doing very well because most of them have been exposed and are determined to curve names for themselves.

He named a boxer like Wahid Omar who has served the Black Bombers for some time and experienced some international games.

According to coach Asare, leaving out some boxers could slow their morale and lead them the turn professional prematurely.

He advised corporate Ghana to support the least financed sports because they have potential to win medals for Ghana.

He commended one Lawrence Nyanyo Nmai who recently paid the round trip for a selected Kickboxing team that represented Ghana at the first Amateur Muay Thai Championship in Morocco and placed 3^rd out of 17 nations.
