The Executive Committee of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship has met President John Dramani Mahama ahead of the church’s World Congress, which opens in Accra today.
The delegation was led by the Fellowship’s Global Chairman, Reverend Dominic Yeo, and the host, General Superintendent Reverend Stephen Wengam.
During the meeting, Rev. Wengam assured the President that preparations for the congress had been completed, describing the event as a historic milestone for the Assemblies of God, which is hosting the gathering on African soil for the first time in its 115-year history.
He expressed appreciation to President Mahama and the government for their support towards organising the congress.
Rev. Wengam also explained that the morning conference had been moved from Independence Square to the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre due to technical challenges, noting that the new venue was more suitable for the event.
For his part, Rev. Yeo congratulated Ghana on becoming the first African country to host the World Congress, drawing a parallel with the country’s position as the first in sub-Saharan Africa to attain political independence.
He conveyed the Executive Committee’s gratitude to President Mahama and the Government of Ghana for the assistance provided towards ensuring the success of the gathering.
The global chairman also praised the President’s leadership, citing economic stability and extensive road development as signs of his vision and transformational agenda.
He encouraged President Mahama to continue reflecting his Christian faith in his political leadership and remain steadfast in his commitment to Christ.
President Mahama welcomed the delegation to Ghana and assured its members of the government’s continued support to ensure the congress was peaceful, successful and impactful.
The President also recounted his personal association with the Assemblies of God, declaring, "I have no regrets."
He commended the church’s current leadership for what he described as its visible growth and transformation.
As part of the visit, Rev. Yeo presented congress souvenirs to President Mahama and led the delegation in prayers for the President and the prosperity of Ghana.
