I Am Happy Black Stars Failed To Qualify For The 2018 FIFA World Cup – GBA President

President of the Ghana Boxing Association, Peter Zwennes says he is happy the country couldn’t qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup that will be held in Russia.

The four-time African champions failed to make it to a four straight world cup appearance after playing in Germany in 2006, South Africa in 2010 and Brazil in 2014 respectively.

After six matches played in the qualifiers, the Black Stars won 1, lost 1 with 4 draws finishing on the Group E table on 3^rd position with 7 points losing the only slot available to Egypt.

“Let me sound very controversial here, for me I’m happy that the Black Stars didn’t qualify for the World Cup, all the money and attention that is given to them will come to boxing. This time and we will see whether we will not thrive,” Zwennes told Ghanacrusader.com.

“Let me sound controversial, let me say it again, I’m happy the Black Stars didn’t qualify for the World Cup and I think all the money that is directed to them this time will come to boxing and we will be the beneficiaries,” he reiterated.

When quizzed whether these monies will be directed to boxing, he said, “Let us hope that those who can’t see will see. I hope that the Sports Ministry will suddenly realize that soccer is now playing second fiddle boxing is on top there and if you to progress you better give the boxers a push.”

“I have no doubt that over the years, we have produced far more laurels in boxing than in soccer, and the Black Stars have only been to the quarter-finals in the World Cup. We have produced World champions in various divisions, we have seven World champions all of whom are alive, so if you come to the records and you want to check we have done far better and we deserve better treatment.” He added.
