The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria has advised Ghanaians living in Johannesburg, Durban and nearby areas to take precautionary measures following reports of protests that could disrupt movement and create security concerns.

In an advisory issued on Saturday, October 10, 2026, the mission said demonstrations had been reported in the central business districts of Johannesburg and Durban. Protesters in Johannesburg were also expected to gather at the Constitutional Court.

The High Commission cautioned that the demonstrations could result in traffic congestion, road closures, movement restrictions and possible clashes between protesters and law enforcement personnel.

It urged Ghanaians to steer clear of protest sites and large gatherings, avoid non-essential trips to the affected business districts and consider alternative routes when travelling.

The mission also encouraged nationals to follow local media reports, traffic updates and security notices issued by the South African Police Service and municipal authorities.

Ghanaians were further advised to avoid confrontations, maintain contact with family members and community leaders, and report any incidents of threats, intimidation or violence to the nearest police station.

The High Commission asked nationals affected by security-related incidents to notify the mission for consular assistance.

It called on the Ghanaian community to remain calm, obey lawful directives from South African security authorities and refrain from sharing unverified information that could trigger unnecessary panic.
