Ghanaian international, Michael Essien is celebrating his 36^th birthday today, Sunday, December 3^rd.

Essien won many trophies and personal awards during his time in Europe.

In 2003/04 and 2004/05 he won the Ligue 1 and also won the Trophée des Champions in 2003 and in 2004.

After joining Chelsea in 2004, the tireless working midfielder won the Premier League three times, Four FA Cups, One Community Shield, One League Cup and One UEFA Champions League.

The former Real Madrid midfielder also won many individual awards which include One League 1 Player of the Year in 2005, BBC African Footballer of the year in 2006, Chelsea Player of the year in 2007 among others.

He also played for clubs such as Liberty Professionals, Bastia, Lyon, Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Panathinaikos.
