Knightmare Wins Chess Championship

Knightmare Chess Club of Tema were crowned winners of this year’s National Chess Championship which took place at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The victory represents Knightmare’s second win in the ten-team competition. The dream team was made up of Edward Sosu, Robert Sackey, Edward Ababio among others.

They scored an impressive 21.5 points, winning 6 out of 7 rounds and drawing only one round against Legon Chess club.

Defending champions, Osu Chess Club came second after edging Dreamfort by half a point with 19.5 and finished third with 19.0 points.

At the end of the competition, winners Knightmare took home a cash prize of GHC 500, Osu Chess Club received GHC300 for placing second while Dreamfort got GHC 200.

This year's competition saw many young talents on display with Peter Nyarko of KNUST winning against top players such as Mensah Gyamena and Edward Sosu.

The Vice-President of the Ghana Chess Association (GCA) in an address, said he was impressed with the turn out and level of competition and commended the newly formed Cape Coast club for participating.
