The Red Bull Arena (Sogakope) and the Nana Ameyaw Park in Techiman saw two enviable records (unbeaten streak) in the 2015/2016 Ghana Premier League go down – West African Football Academy (WAFA) beating Hearts of Oak 3-0, and Ebusua Dwarfs piping Techiman City Football Club.
The ‘Soccer Physicians,’ WAFA beaten Hearts of Oak isn’t a big deal judging from an unbiased tactical point of view, but the brouhaha that raised its ugly head after the game was the way and manner in which the academy boys could rudely reduce a competitive match into a mere training grounds rehearsal.
After completing a ninety minute job in less than 26 minutes through goals from young Togolese international, Komlan Agbegniadan (brace) and Charles Boateng’s delightful strike, WAFA decided to tweak, turn, and above all dance with the ball throughout the second half whiles the Phobians who had never lost on the road prior to their visit to the Volta Region looked perplexed on the field.
Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs traveled to the Nana Ameyaw Park (The Den) to hunt down Techiman City’s home invincibility on Sunday as they pip the Citizens by a lone goal (1-0).
New Edubiase FC’s hope of escaping relegation hit the mirror as AshantiGold SC scold them 2-0 in the Adansi derby at the Len Clay Sports Stadium. Fuseini Nuhu and Osei Baffour were on the score cards for the soccer miners.
Asante Kotoko’s winless streak got revived at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium after Amos Frimpong’s late goal from the spot secured them a 1-0 win over Dreams FC.
Of course, the Porcupine Warriors win couldn’t have come without controversy – A journalist was reported beaten by a section of Kotoko supporters for questioning the bases on which referee Nathan Anaafo awarded Kotoko the penalty in the 85th minute.
Again, Administrative Manager of Dreams FC (Ameenu Shardow) was not pleased either with some decisions of the center referee on the day.
It was a tale of two free kicks at the Tema Community 3 Park as Kwesi Donsu’s 9th minute, expertly taken free kick was reciprocated by Godfred Ahotor’s free kick in the 86th minute settled (1-1) the game between Inter Allies and Medeama SC.
Goals from Richard Arthur and Saddick Alhassan were enough for All Stars to beat Bechem United 2-0 at the Wa Park. Wa All Stars have leapfrogged to the summit of the league table with 41 points.
At the Essipong Sports Stadium, however, Hasaacas kept their survival mission in shape as they beat Aduana Stars 2-1 whiles the match between Berekum Chelsea and Liberty Professionals at the Golden City Park ended 1-1.
