Ghanaians Excel In Turkish Amputee Football League

The flag of Ghana continues to rise high in the area of disability sports as members of the Ghana Amputee Football National team, the Black Challenge, liven up the Turkish Amputee Football League with their sterling skills, sweeping all the diadems at stake in the just-ended season.

Ghana’s national team captain, Richard Arthur Opentil, set the ball rolling by winning the league title with Osmanlispor; the duo of Mubarak Mohammed and Cephas Anum placed 3^rd with their club Yeditepe Spor Kulubu and Kelvin Kofi Asare’s Sahinbey picked the fourth spot.

In the Federation Cup, Kofi Asare won Gold as Sahinbey beat opposition from seven other clubs to win the coveted cup. That feat was achieved with a sweet 1-0 victory over Yeditepe, leaving Cephas and Mubarak with the Silver medal as consolation.

Captain Richard Arthur Opentil didn’t go home empty-handed in the 8-club Federation Cup but sealed the bright season with a bronze medal in his wardrobe as his club placed third.

The Turkish Amputee Football Super league has ten clubs competing for the title, whilst the Division One is split into two zones A and B.

The Top 4 finishers from the Super League are put into groups with the first and second positioned clubs in the two zones of the Division One League in the Confederation Cup, also known as the Top 8.

Ghana currently has the largest number of foreign players in the Turkish Amputee Football League after setting the record of being the first nation to ever transfer professional Amputee Football Players in the world.

The achievements of these players highlights the brilliance of Ghanaian players in the sport that is transforming persons with disability (PWDs) into exceptional achievers.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Ghana Amputee Football Association, Rev Richard Nii Amartey Adesah, has sent a congratulatory message to all the players in the Turkish Amputee Football League, on their performance in the competition.

Rev Adesah expressed the Association’s confidence in them and their ability to continually lift up the image of the nation through their special abilities.

Bemoaning the lack of support for the sport, Rev Adesah observed that, the resilience of the players, management and technical team of the Black Challenged is a sign of determination and a resolve not to be discouraged by the challenges being faced.

“This is a sign of a determined group of people who are not deterred by the numerous challenges and obstacles they face,” he stated.

He appealed to the authorities to pay all outstanding monies owed the Black Challenge for participating in competitions for the nation, to serve as morale-booster.
