Akropong, April 6, GNA - Presbyterian College of Education (PCE), Akropong, defeated Abetifi College of Education (ABETICE), by a lone goal in the opening football match of the Eastern and Greater Accra Regional Inter Colleges Sports Festival, at Akropong.
Six colleges of Education from the Eastern Region and two from the Greater Accra merged to participate in the seven days sports festival.
Over 500 athletes from the eight colleges, were expected to compete in track and field events, volleyball, table tennis, football and handball.
The colleges expected to participate in the festival include Presbyterian College of Education (PCE), SDA College of Education (SEDACE), Mount Mary College of Education(MMCE), Abetifi College of Education (ABETICE), Ada College of Education(ADACE), Accra College of Education(ACCE), Presbyterian Women College of Education(PWCE) and Kibi College of Education (KIBICE).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Miss Mavis Ama Frimpong, the Eastern Regional Minister, said there is the need to develop sports talents for economic benefits, adding that government is eager and committed to develop sports talents across all breath of the country.
She advised the athletes to show commitment, discipline, hard work and good sportsmanship in order to attain the top ladder in sports and also advised them not to encourage politicians to incite them to cause mayhem as the country prepares for the polls.
