League Report Today in history: Hearts beat Abedi Pele’s RTU to win FA Cup
SUN, 15 NOV 2015

On 15th November, 1981 Accra Hearts of Oak dominated play against Real Tamale United (RTU) and crowned the game with a 1-0 victory to lift the 1981 FA Cup

The lone goal that decided which team represented Ghana in the 1982 Cup Winners Cup was scored by skipper Robert Hammond in the early minutes.

Immediately the FIFA referee from Togo Agbala signaled the two teams into action, Hearts showed their intention to carry the day, by making the game one sided.

The two sides had earlier settled for a two all draw on 8th November, however the replay went in favour of the Phobians with their skipper Robert Hammond affectionately called 'Expensive' by soccer fans getting the only goal of the game in the ninth (9th) minute .

He was the  reason why Hearts of Oak failed to win the final earlier on as his miskick gifted PMK Kusi the opportunity to snatch the equaliser that threw the game into a replay, but Hammond made amends with the only goal that separated the two sides.

Abedi Pele, the three times African Football of the year was then a teenager playing for RTU and he proved his worth by putting up a nice display.
