Judge advised journalists to be circumspect in court reportage

Justice Godwin Kpogli, Asante Mampong District Magistrate has advised journalists to be circumspect in their court reportage in order not to reduce the courts and judges to public ridicule.

Mr. Kpogli stated this on last Friday during interaction with students of Noble Media Broadcasting & Journalism School based at Asante Mampong who were at the court to observe court proceedings as part of their programme of studies.

He advised Radio Presenters who allow the public to pass unnecessary comments on court proceedings and judgement during ‘phone-in’ segments without proper legal interpretation, to desist from doing that.

“When judgement is given and any party is not satisfied, the best option is filing an appeal, but not to resort to debate on radio or television”. His Worship Mr. Kpogli said.

He admonished journalists to adhere to their professional code of ethics and avoid sensationalism in their reportage.

The students who are in their final year, are pursuing Broadcast Journalism, Media Law & Ethics and Communication skills.
