Education Minister's claim on recruitment of 2023-trained teachers is factually incorrect' — Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers

The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT) has rejected comments by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, regarding the recruitment of the 2023 batch of trained teachers, describing his remarks as inaccurate and misleading.

The group said the Minister's statement, made during an interview on Accra-based GTV's Breakfast Show on Tuesday, August 4, wrongly suggested that part of the 2023 batch had been recruited and posted in 2024.

According to the coalition, no teacher from the 2023 batch was recruited throughout 2025 despite repeated assurances that financial clearance would be secured for their employment.

"We respectfully state that this claim is factually incorrect and has caused disappointment and frustration among thousands of unemployed graduate teachers from the 2023 batch," the coalition said in a press release issued on Tuesday.

CUTT explained that the teachers recruited in 2024 belonged to the 2022 batch, who had completed their mandatory national service that year after beginning it in 2023.

It said members of the 2023 batch only completed their national service in February 2025, by which time the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration had assumed office.

The coalition further stated that although financial clearance was later granted for the recruitment of 7,000 teachers, it had appealed to the Ministry of Education to recruit affected graduates in batches to ensure fairness, accountability and transparency.

It said the proposal was rejected, and the recruitment portal was instead opened to all eligible applicants, leaving many qualified 2023 graduates without appointments while some 2024 graduates secured recruitment.

"We respectfully call on the Hon. Minister to correct this statement publicly to prevent further misinformation and restore confidence among affected graduate teachers," the statement added.

The coalition threatened that it would embark on lawful and peaceful demonstrations if the Minister fails to correct the statement.
