Palermo star Robin Kwamina Quaison claims he has never considered playing for Ghana and revealed it has always been his dream to play for Sweden.
The 21-year-old attacker was born to a Ghanaian father and a Swedish mother and has featured at youth level for Sweden.
With Ghana's football image soaring internationally, it was thought Quaison would consider switching nationality to play for the Black Stars.
But he has insisted he has never considered playing for the West African giants but rather Sweden.
“It has always been Sweden. Playing for Ghana has never been an option. I've said it to my agent and now I'm saying it to the press that it has always been Sweden,” Quaison told Swedish website hd.se/sport.
Interestingly, Quaison reportedly told Accra-based radio station Starr FM that he had fixed his sights on playing for the West African country.
As to what has informed his latest u-turn, it is only known to the player.
Quaison in action for Sweden's U21 side
Quaison left Swedish side AIK Solna to sign for the Serie A side last summer but has started just four (4) league games since the start of the season. He says he is working to improve his stats at Palermo first.
“Now I'm focusing on my club Palermo and I hope to join the Swedish team any day to play for my country,” he added.
On playing for Sweden's senior national team, Quaison says he hopes to join legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the Swedish dressing room.
“I am Swedish. I was born here and this is where I grew up. I have been waiting for the day I would get to share the dressing room with Kim Kallstrom, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Johan Elmander and everyone else in the Swedish squad,” he said.
