The management of Obuasi Goldfields Sporting Club Limited has changed the name of the club. The Club is now known and called Ashanti Gold Sporting Club Limited
According to the Chief Executive Officer, Andy Sam, the change took effect from 16th April, 2004. The club played its first game under the new name last week when they held Liberty to a 2~2 drawn game.
According to a management source, the change has been necessitated by the merger been Ashanti Goldfields and Anglo gold of South Africa.
