Nigeria won by a goal to nil against Zimbabwe to place third in the 201 African Nations Championship on Saturday. The Super Eagles missed out on Saturday's final after crushing out on penalties against a resilient Ghana side.
Nigeria however saved their blushes with respect to performances from their senior national side in the 2013 African Cup of Nations by emerging victorious over Zimbabwe in the 3 rd and 4 th play-off to secure third spot in the competition.
The only goal of the game between Nigeria and Zimbabwe came in the 85 th minute and was scored by Obiozor. Zimbabwe had a man sent off in the 18 th minute.
Nigeria began their quest for glory in the competition on the wrong foot as they lost their first Group A game to Mali by two goals to one. The Super Eagles recovered from the early slump to put things in order by beating Mozambique by four goals to two.
Coach Steven Keshi masterminded a 3-1 win over host nation South Africa to send his side through to the quarter final, eliminated the host nation in the process.
The greatest comeback of the African Nations Championship in the quarter final saw Nigeria book a semi-final date with Ghana after coming back from three goals down to send Morocco packing by four goals to three.
