Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu says winning the 2013 Wafu Nations Cup will be the elixir for his team ahead of the 2014 African Nations Championships in South Africa.
The local Black Stars recovered from a shock 1-0 defeat to Benin in the win their final Group A match against Burkina Faso and advance to the grand-finale.
However, Ghana were not too convincing in their play and looked much like a team in progress.
The just concluded Wafu tournament was meant to sharpen the team for the upcoming campaign next January.
A gritty performance saw Ghana beat Senegal 3-1 to lift the trophy for the first time in the history of the competition.
Konadu hopes the team's modest achievement will sharpen his players for the impending assignment.
“I think it can only boost our morale even though I think we have to be working very very hard before they can compete in South Africa,” the former Asante Kotoko coach said.
“This is a morale-booster we are happy we have won it for the first time. We are all happy.
“For my CV too, I'm becoming more confident now so it will help us when we go to South Africa. So it will help us a lot.”
Ghana face Congo in their Group C opener on 13 January before engaging Libya four days later and a final match against Ethiopia on 21 January.
