Senegal handed defending champions Togo a humiliating 3-1 defeat at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday in their Wafu Nations Cup Group B opener.

Two first half goals from Talla Ndiaye and another from Sora Mbaye sent the Lionceaux on top of the table.

Togo looked dishevelled and could not meet the pace of the Senegalese who took just five minutes to go ahead.

It was a free-kick conceded by Dadzie Kodjovi which was floated into the area for an unmarked Ndiaye to head in.

Ten minutes later Ndiaye doubled the lead which was aided by some poor goalkeeper.

Credit must go to winger Richard Sagna who dribbled into the area and released Ndiaye whose powerful low grounder slid through the hands of goalkeeper Falaiba Hezouwe.

Francois Joseph Koto side were superior and went into the break with a two-goal cushion.

The script was unchanged in the second half as Togo did little to suggest they were capable of staging a comeback.

After the hour, the two-goal hero turned provider when he set up a rolling Mbaye to register the third goal.

Togo had been handed a knockout punch and looked legless but they snatched a consolation from Saibou Badarou in injury time.

Badarou, the top scorer in the Togolese league with 14 goals, profited was an awful defending by Chiekh Wade, who missed a header.
