Ghana names 19 cricketers for Sierra Leone

The Ghana Cricket Association on Sunday named a preliminary 19-man squad dominated by Junior Secondary School pupils in the Greater Accra metropolis to prepare for the first-ever West African under-15 cricket tournament which kick-starts on January 15 through to the 19th in Sierra Leone.

The list is to be increased later to include students from Achimota secondary, Presbyterian Boys secondary, Legon, and Ghana International Schools, most of who are writing their exams.

Mr Eddie Nustugah, one of the handlers of the boys, told the GNA Sports after Sunday's practise that the final list would be pruned down to 14 who will join two officials to represent the country in the weeklong tournament.

The cricketers are made up of nine JSS pupils, five SSS students, four non-students mostly from Anunle area and one primary school pupil.

The JSS pupils called to camp were James Vifah, Peter Ananya, Moses Anafie, Jones Gohoho, Awudu Dramani, Mathew Bawa, Obed Havvey, Lawrence Atteak, and Moses Djan.

The five SSS students named were Samson Awe Awiah, Mark Bawa, Michael Ayiwuruje, Lawrence Ahadzi and Joseph Out-Nii Ankrah.

The rest were Stephen Bagabina, Isaac Apedo, Joseph Addaie and Justice Ameyo (all non-students) and the only primary pupil, Jerry Kudalor.
