Muslim youth asked to show commitment to peace

Suhum (E/R), Aug 2, GNA - Alhaji Seidu Mejeri, a teacher of the Qur'an, has dispelled the misconception that Muslim youth contribute to causing political tension in the country.

He said Muslims are peaceful loving people, who respect authorities, the laws of the land and their tradition of “believing in Islam and living according to its rule”.

Alhaji Seidu said these when he addressed over 500 Muslim youth urging them to be committed to peace after a Friday worship at the Gariba Zongo Mosque at Suhum in the Eastern Region on Wednesday.

He asked the leadership of the various political parties in the country to bring their supporters to order any time they went wrong in their activities towards this year's electioneering campaigns.

Politicians should also desist from engaging the youth to use their exuberance to cause chaos and confusion, he said.

He asked leaders of political parties to advise their supporters, especially the youth, to be mindful of their language and actions, since the country needed stability now more than before.

Alhaji Seidu called on religious bodies, traditional leaders including civil society to ensure peaceful co-existence of the citizenry.

According to him, “This is not the time to beat war drums, but to sit together to seek solutions to the numerous problems that confront the nation”.

The teacher called on all youth groups, religious bodies, civil society and politicians, to join Muslim youth to help keep the country united and ensure that this year's general elections becomes peaceful and successful.
