
Accra, June 20, GNA – Five Ghanaian boxers have qualified for the finals of the ongoing Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Games currently underway at the El-Wak and Accra Sports Stadium in Accra.
The quintet booked their places in the finals with convincing results in the semi final held on Thursday at the Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.
Fan' favourite Duke Micah maintained his short-cut run with a second round knockout victory over Senegalese Moustapha Mbalke in the Flyweight division. Micah will face Jesugnon Adande of Benin, who beat Moussa Sahaba of Nigeria in the battle for gold.
In the Bantamweight category, Sulemana Tetteh also defeated Mohamadou Bohari of Nigeria 8-3 to set up a final date with Nigerian Okerinde Semiu. Semiu who outclassed Amed Sadek of Burkina Faso 14-7.
Jessie Lartey managed a split decision victory over Tadja Imonou of Benin with a score of 10-7 in the Lightweight division. Lartey will be up against Oladosu Rilwan of Nigeria in Thursday's final.
In the Light Welterweight division, Musah Rahman Lawson proved too much for Ekpresso Djamiou of Benin beating him 24-12. Musah Lawson will be battle Senegalese Djiby N'diaye in the finals.
Light Heavyweight Emmanuel Martey saw off Sawadogo Boureima of Burkina Faso 16-5 to set up a date with Nigerian Masebinu Adewale in the finals. Adewale beat Malian Nouhoun Sanagre 15-7 in their semi final clash.
Boxing Team Ghana is the most represented country at Thursday's final of the boxing event of the ECOWAS Games.
