
Accra, June 18, GNA – Niger and Burkina Faso proved their worth by dominating the Traditional Wrestling event at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Games 2012, which is underway in Accra.
The two countries were the dominant forces at the prelims of the Traditional Wrestling event held on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Niger won three of their bouts to put them in contention for the gold medal in the respective categories. They accounted for Togo 4-1, beat Senegal 3-2 before registering a 4-1 win over neighbours Nigeria. The Nigeriens lead the pack in Group A.
In the other bouts, Senegal boosted their chances with a 3-2 win over Nigeria and a 5-0 thrashing of Togo.
In Group B, the Burkinabes also emerged victors in three bouts to jump to the summit of the standings. The Burkinabes recorded 5-0 wins over host Ghana, Benin and Cote d'Ivoire.
Hosts Ghana suffered losses in all bouts with further defeats to Cote d'Ivoire (2-3) and Benin (0-5).
The finals of the Traditional Wrestling will be held on Friday, June 22 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
