Black Stars Wallop Lesotho 7-0

Kumasi, June 1, GNA – Coach Kwasi Appiah must be the happiest man after guiding the nation's Black Stars to a seven nil convincing victory over Lesotho in their first leg group “D” 2014 world cup qualifier played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Coach following his first impressive performance in charge of the team quickly dashed to the tunnel to avoid being mobbed by the jubilant spectators.

The Stars determined to carry the day commenced the match on a fast note pilling up pressure on their counterparts when Senegalese referee Diata Badara whistled for hostilities to begin.

They came close to scoring but wasted the earlier chances that came their way in the first, third and in the eight minutes but Agyeman Badu, Jordan Ayew and Dominic Adiyiah squandered the opportunities.

As they continued to lay siege, Sulley Muntari opened the score in the 16th minute with a long lob which sailed over the Lesotho defenders and beat goalkeeper Phasumane Kholuoe who had come out of the post.

The visitors accepted the challenge and mounted series of attacks but was short lived and allowed the Stars to take over and no wonder scored their second through Dominic Adiyiah whose long shot deflected off a defender and went straight into the yawning net.

Jordan Ayew followed up with a spectacular goal in the 44th minute with the defence of Lesotho broken to end the half.

On resumption, the Stars continued with the onslaught and probed for more goals which yielded dividends as Adiyiah who intercepted a pass in the midfield and raced deep into the opponent's goal area, beating a defender and unleashed a perfect shot to the blind side of the goalkeeper.

Few minutes after the goal, the floodlights went off and it took about one hour for the technicians to restore power.

When the game resumed a rejuvenated Stars scored three quick goals to the satisfaction of the sports enthusiasts who thronged the stadium to cheer the stars up.

Substitute Christian Atsu, Jordan Ayew and Jerry Akaminko were on hand to score in the 85th, 90th and two minutes into injury time.
