Fans in Kumasi have hailed the Black Stars for the superb performance that saw them thumped Mali 2-0 in the group game of the Africa Cup of Nations Saturday night.

A number of them who spoke to the Graphic Sports as well as phone-in radio programmes monitored by this paper revealed the team's dream of winning the cup was on course.

They haoever cautioned against complacency as the competition hots up.

For once Kumasi came to live after the Black Stars victory over Mali.

A rather unimpressive play against Botswana in the first group match did not go down well with many people in the city as there was the fear that the dream of winning the cup was in danger.

Fears heightened further when after the 6-1 drubbing of Botswana by Guinea in another group match earlier on Saturday.

The pessimists were at their best, and as Guinea's huge victory sent shivers down the spines of fans, the belief was that any slip by the Black Stars against Mali could spell doom for the team in their quest to win the ultimate.

But, the great performance by the team reignited hope in the fans that the team’s dream was on course.

In areas like Kejetia, Bantama, Asafo, Kwadaso and Asuoyeboa, football enthusiasts in typical fashion filled the drinking joints to celebrate the victory.

Others also celebrated rather dangerously in high-speeding vehicles.

But nothing seriously happened.
Fans were full of praise of the players and technical team for mapping

out the right strategy to overcome the Malians.
They wanted the team to go all out against Guinea in the final group

game in order to top the group.
The victory against Mali is expected to boost the sales of Black stars paraphernalia in the city.

Traders have complained of poor sales since the competition started but with the improved performance of the team, things could change from now.
