Referee L.O Laryea unhappy

Mr. L .O Laryea, chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG), has expressed unhappiness about recent developments in the running of he Association which sought to create the impression that he was running the association alone.

The chairman who was at the centre of controversy in a recent boycott threat by his association during the second week fixtures of the on-going Kinapharmer Premier League also said he is worried about the impression created that he was behind the threat.

Mr. Laryea expressed these sentiments during an emergency meeting of the associations on Friday to discuss the alleged boycott threat.

The impression gathered by the GNA Sports indicated that the chairman's open remarks to his colleagues on the issue was to clear his name as to whether or not he was behind or masterminded the boycott.

"Gentlemen, please be frank, during negotiations with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), did I at any stage instruct or suggest to you that we would boycott the matches even if the FA agreed to our proposal," he asked.

At the meeting, it became clear that a member of the association received a letter from the Ghana Football Association approving new officiating allowances for referees but this was not communicated to all members of the association to enable them to go to their venues of assignment to handle the premier league matches.

Referee Laryea said a member of the association who was among the RAG team that negotiated with the FA failed to reach out the press to inform the referees about the new development and thereby instruct appointed referees to honour their matches.

He said this inaction had caused him a lot of embarrassment since the false impression was created that without him no decision could be taken by the association.
