Ghana Hockey Teams Lose To South Africa

The national female hockey team appears to be suffering from inconsistency at the ongoing All Africa Games in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, as they are struggling to keep their rhythm.

After drawing 0-0 in their opening match against host country, Zimbabwe, the ladies again failed to find the back of the net as they were thrashed 0-3 by hockey powerhouse South Africa, last Monday.

Nothing seemed to work for the Ghanaians, and although they dominated occasionally, they were unable to break an old jinx against the South Africans.

It was not only bad news for the ladies but their men as well. After trouncing Morocco 6-0, the Ghanaian men were hammered 0-4 by the South African men.

Apart from Ghana's under-17 side which defeated their South African counterparts at last year's Youth Olympic qualifier, all the other national teams have suffered at the hands of the rainbow nation.

Kenya's ladies bounced back after losing to South Africa to beat Zimbabwe 2-0, Egypt's men whitewashed Morocco 16-1, while Kenya's men walloped Zimbabwe 4-0.

According to the pairings, the men teams will be back on the pitch after yesterday's rest period to battle it out as they close in on the preliminary matches. Kenya play Morocco, Zimbabwe engage Ghana while Egypt face off with South Africa. Officials say Ghana's chances are still bright to play for gold, with an outstanding match for the ladies and two outstanding for the men.
