December 08, 2010 Accra, Dec. 8, GNA - Ex-national weightlifting champion, Bernard Fetrie has brokered a deal for a training tour of Australia for three members of the national weightlifting team ahead of the Mozambique 2011 All Africa Games.
The trio made up of Daniel Darko (62 kg), Seth Dogbe Fetrie (69 kg) and Mawunyo Trineety (85 kg) are scheduled to leave for Australia next January for a three month training tour in preparation towards the continental version of the Olympic Games.
The trip is being facilitated by Fetrie, currently domiciled in Australia in partnership with Burwood Pcyc High Performance Olympic Weightlifting Club.
Fetrie, skipper of the national weightlifting team during the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, told GNA Sports in Accra that he is funding the airfare of the trio, whilst the Australian Club has assured of feeding and accommodation.
He said the dismal performance of the team at the recently held Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India served as the basis for him to arrange the trip to equip them professionally for the All Africa Games.
Fetrie commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council for the support towards his proposal.
The 10th All Africa Games will be held in Maputo, Mozambique from 3-18 September, 2011.
