The national home-based players managed a goalless draw against Burkina Faso in a CHAN final round first leg qualifier in Ouagadougou on Saturday.
The local Black Stars could not shock the Burkinabes in their own backyard as promised by head coach Herbert Addo.
"I wouldn't say am impressed with the way we played because I came here to win but I must say the boys are picking up and we will work hard to win at home," the experience coach said.
Ghana must now win the second leg to be played in a fortnight to book a qualification ticket to the finals in Sudan next year.
Burkina Faso need a scoring draw to advance at the expense of last year's runners up at the maiden edition in Ivory Coast.
Ghana Line-up:
Stephen Ahorlu-Godfred Saka, Latif Mohammed, Lee Arday, Karim Alhassan-Bright Addae/Malik Akowuah, Jordan Opoku, Edmund Owusu-Ansah, Mahatma Otoo/Daniel Nii Adjei, Tanko Mohammed/Obed Owusu, Latif Salifu
