The Ghana Hockey Association will subject hockey players to medical examinations following the death of a veteran hockey player last Saturday.
62-year-old Nii Acquaye Ankrah collapsed and died while playing for his club, Citizens, in a friendly match at the National Hockey Pitch.
Chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association, Oko Nikoi Dzani, said although the association conducted tests for players in time past, the practice was not sustained.
“It's unfortunate but we have to arm ourselves now with medical personnel who under certain circumstances will be at our disposal to take preventive measures on anybody before it is too late. This is one of the things that we have to insist happens,” he told Joy News.
