English side Chelsea have given Ghana the much-needed boost as they have revealed that midfielder Michael Essien should be fit to play for the Black Stars in the African Cup of Nations campaign next month.

His club manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that the enforcer should be ready to play before Ghana play their opening match on 11 January against Burkina Faso.

Ancelotti said that Essien will remain at Chelsea for extra treatment on his injured hamstring before travelling to the tournament in Angola.

"He will go I think, in one week he will be ready to go to play for the African Cup," Ancelotti said.

This massive boost come on the day when two players John Pantsil and Anthony Annan joined the Black Stars injury list.

Pantsil has been completely ruled out of the tournament while Annan retains hopes of playing in the competition

Essien, 27, has been out of action since suffering a hamstring tear against Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League on Dec.8.
