Football lovers on the continent will get the chance of watching all 32 matches of the January 10-31 African Cup of Nations in Angola live, from the comfort of their homes.
This was disclosed at a media soiree held in Accra during the week. Supersport will broadcast every match of the African Cup of Nations live from Angola, to be followed, six months later by the 2010 World Cup. This comes weeks after the channel broadcast all matches involving the Black Satellites at the just ended World Under 20 Youth Championships. There will be at least six and a half hours of live daily coverage, plus a magazine programme, “Ola Angola”, to be customized for both English and Portuguese subscribers.
Speaking at the soiree, the general manager of Supersport Nigeria, Felix Awogu said, “we are committed to delivering up to the minute information on teams and behind the scenes events at the continental showpiece. Just like we did for the last Nations Cup in Ghana and keeping with the tradition of Supersport, high quality television programming would be delivered to viewers”.
He revealed the channel's plans of assembling some of the best football analysts including former footballers on the continent, who will partake in live studio discussions before and after every match. In addition, popular reporters Thomas Kwenite and Monica Silva will provide daily, behind -the -scenes coverage, giving viewers an insight into the continental showpiece. This, too, will have an English and Portuguese flavor in keeping with the host region's popular languages.
The event which attracted a cross section of the media, was used to brainstorm on how best to make Supersport, a must watch channel. Some journalists took turns to register their displeasure at the seemingly bias against Ghana, exhibited by some of the panelists who partake in notable football programmes on the channel.
Responding to their concerns, the Marketing Coordinator-Africa of Supersport, Itumeleng Senne, regretted the trend and promised to get those grievances across to the appropriate quarters and assured all present of Supersport's balance and fairness on all programmes on the various channels it operates.
