Accra Hearts of Oak have been handed a two match home ban and a measly fine of 3,000 GHC after their fans beat an assistant referee into unconsciousness during a Premier League game.
The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association have also ordered the Phobians to pay for the cost of the assistant referees flags which were stolen in the process.
But the fact that those who assaulted the referee have got away without any punishment will infuriate those who say violence in football is not being dealt with adequately.
The shocking scenes happened after Hearts were held to a 1-1 drawn game at home to Bechem FC on August 9 in a tense neck to neck race with Kumasi Asante Kotoko for the League title.
The assistant referee spent the night in hospital and was released after two days.
The assault shocked the nation but PLB chairman Welbeck Abrah-Appiah says the punishment for the club had not been severe because they pleaded guilty.
