Former welterweight champion, Oblitey Commey, is the first to benefit from the Azumah Nelson Fund as part of the latter's social responsibility to society.

The fund will take care of his hospital bills since he has problem with his sight, feed and clothe him. 'Zoom, Zoom' also offered him a sum of GH¢200 for the mean time.

The 72-year-old Commey boasts of two sons, all boxers, - Oblitei, former Commonwealth featherweight champion and Rocky, former national and bantamweight champion. The latter is now deceased.

The donation, which drew the cynosure of all eyes in the Bukom community, was done amidst chanting, singing and hailing of the former world champion, Azumah.

Azumah announced that his foundation is to assist former boxers, the poor and needy children to facilitate their education and general well-being.

"This is just the beginning of greater things the foundation has planned to do," he stressed, adding that, "I chose Oblitey because I am close to him and that Bukom is where he has lived most of his life."

He said the vision of the foundation is to gather these former boxers and confine them in a home in order to take care of them.

Acccording to Azumah, even though they have all been former boxers, "it looks like I have been more blessed by God and I am giving back the love God has shown towards me these past years in my career."

The foundation will not only concentrate on former boxers but will also consider other sporting disciplines like football, swimming and the likes.

Kaileytse Oko, senior brother of Oblitey, appreciated the respect given to his brother and says he expects that all promises made to him be fulfilled.

The septuagenarian former champion thanked Azumah for first considering him amongst all the former boxers and noted that "words alone cannot express how I feel."
