Stars in Crocodiles waters

Ghana`s Black Stars left the Garden City yesterday, via Kotoka International Airport after their triumphant Nations/World Cup win over Libya, to South Africa to face Lesotho's Likuena (Crocodiles) in their second qualifier at Bloemfontein on Sunday.

Optimism has reached astronomical heights in the camp of Africa's number one team, ahead of the Group 5 crucial encounter, The Chronicle Sports understands.

And though they are playing on foreign soil, indications are that the Ghnaians have purposed to fly on the wings of Sunday's victory to act as worthy ambassadors.

The confident Ghanaian coach, Sellas Tetteh was quoted on the Ghana Football Association Website, admitting his side's brilliance in their opening Group 5 game.

That notwithstanding, the coach, who guided Ghana's U-17 side to a fourth position in the last World Cup tournament has said that he was working on the team's rough edges to claw all the three points at stake in order to consolidate their lead on the Group 5 standings.

Unlike the Group 5 leaders, the Lesotho national team have been dormant, following their failure to arrive in Gabon for their opening qualifier against Gabon last Saturday, and this places the Stars in a better position tactically, to return home unscathed.

Lesotho were stuck in transit in South Africa, after a strike action by air traffic controllers in Gabon, which ended on Thursday, meant they could not continue their onward journey, according to a BBC report.

After the Lesotho game, the Stars will continue their Nations/World Cup campaign when they travel away to Gabon on July 13, to play their Gabonese counterparts.
