Ivorian FA Backs Drobga

The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) last Wednesday waded into the controversy of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards held in Lome, Togo, last weekend which saw the coronation of Sevilla striker, Freddie Kanoute, as the new king of African football.
Mr Iddriss Diallo, Vice-Chairman of FIF has described the incidents leading to the awards as very unfortunate and a bad testament for the progress that African football has chalked so far.
Speaking to the media in Sekondi - Ghana, Diallo said, without taking anything from Kanoute, it was clear that Didier Drogba was given a raw deal.
“Every African knows the contribution of Drogba to both African football in the past year, and that he deserves the award.
“But this is not the time to go into an unnecessary battle with CAF. It is not a worthy cause to pursue.
“We are in Ghana for the Nations Cup and we will not allow ourselves to be distracted by anything, and I urged the media to drop the matter,” Mr Diallo said.
According to him, the Ivorians still adore the shinnng virtues of the Chelsea striker, and the CAF verdict nothwithstanding, they still believed that the player was robbed of what was his.
“We do not want to hold it against Kanoute because he is our African brother and we support him in all his endevours,” the Ivorian official said.
