Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice-president George Afriyie has criticised GFA president Kurt Okraku over his conduct during an appearance before Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth and Sports.
Okraku appeared before the committee on Wednesday, November 4, to answer questions on the state of Ghanaian football and issues concerning the country's national teams.
However, his performance at the parliamentary engagement did not impress Afriyie, who described the GFA president's demeanour and responses as inappropriate.
Afriyie expressed disappointment with the manner in which Okraku conducted himself during the session, saying his behaviour had left him embarrassed to be associated with football.
“His posturing and answering. Today, I feel scandalised to be associated with football,” Afriyie said.
“His posturing, the way he sat there, and the way he used certain words were bad. I think he needs help, and the people around him cannot tell him the truth; some of us will.”
The former GFA vice-president also urged people within Okraku's inner circle to offer him the necessary support as he enters what he described as his final year in office.
Afriyie further suggested that Ghana football should prepare for a change in leadership next year, insisting that the time had come for a new face to take charge of the country's football administration.
“Ghana football will need to go to a new face coming next year. It’s about time those around Kurt needed to support him in his last year in office. Because his posturing yesterday was not the best,” he added.
Okraku is currently serving his second term as GFA president, having been re-elected in October 2023.
