Black Maidens have qualified for the round of 16 at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after securing a 2-0 victory over Canada in their final Group C match.
The Black Maidens sealed the crucial win with two second-half goals to finish second in the group and advance to the knockout stage.
After a goalless first half, Linda Achiaa broke the deadlock in the 65th minute to put Ghana in front.
Christiana Ashiaku then scored in the fifth minute of added time at the end of the match to confirm the victory and secure all three points for the West African side.
The result also marked goalkeeper Belinda Maku Aklie’s first clean sheet of the tournament, as Ghana’s defence kept Canada from scoring.
Ghana finished the group stage with four points from three matches, having recovered from an opening 3-0 defeat to Norway.
The team subsequently drew 3-3 with Brazil in an entertaining encounter before producing a decisive performance against Canada to secure qualification.
The Black Maidens will now await confirmation of their opponents for the round of 16 as they prepare for the knockout stage of the tournament.
