Gabriel celebrated his 200th Premier League game for Arsenal by helping the club secure a 2-0 home win over Everton that saw the champions draw level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table.
The Brazilian defender rose magnificently to power a header into the net from Ben White's pinpoint cross on 68 minutes to secure a merited seventh win in eight matches for Mikel Arteta's men.
Gabriel was also involved in the opening goal when his downward flick at the near post from Martin Odegaard's corner hit the crossbar before breaking kindly for Ezri Konsa to stab home his first goal for the club from close range on seven minutes.
In truth, Arsenal were rarely tested in the driving rain as they dominated possession against a visiting side who slumped to a second successive defeat following their 2-0 loss to Chelsea last weekend.
Everton's best chances saw Gabriel, who suffered an injury scare to his knee midway through the second half, clear off his line after David Raya failed to cleanly gather a corner on 19 minutes.
Meanwhile, Raya also bailed White out when his header backwards was intercepted by Thierno Barry before the break, but his chipped finish could not clear the Spain international as he raced from his line to smother.
City - who had lost 2-1 at Aston Villa earlier in the afternoon - remain three goals better off than the Gunners at the summit.
David Moyes' Everton ended the afternoon ninth on 10 points, but within three points of Chelsea in fourth spot.
