As part of efforts to develop and improve the capacity of Ghanaian coaches, Hockey Farm Sports, with support from The Athletic Agency and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Sports Unit, has successfully completed a two‑day programme dubbed “The Coaches Conversation.”
The initiative, held at the National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday, 21st and Thursday, 22nd October 2026, attracted over 40 coaches from hockey, football, basketball, athletics, volleyball, and other sporting disciplines. It aimed at upgrading coaching knowledge, enhancing professional standards, and creating a platform for peer learning.
Organised and facilitated by the CEO of Hockey Farm Sports and Sports Director of GRA, Mr. Ebenezer Frimpong, the workshop equipped coaches with well‑informed insights on game planning, developmental strategies, player behaviour on and off the pitch, and other technical aspects of sports management.
Mr. Patrick Lartey, Head of Human Resource at the Ghana Revenue Authority, commended the facilitator and participants for the success of the programme. He made the remarks during the closing ceremony, where he presented certificates to the coaches.
According to him, the workshop aligns with GRA’s mandate of supporting and developing coaches’ technical capabilities. He praised the coaches for their unity and commitment to advancing the sport, noting that such collaboration will propel hockey forward.
“I like the way they have come together devoid of the rivalries on the pitch. This, I believe, will bring competent knowledge together for the growth of hockey in Ghana,” he stated.
Highlighting the significance of the sport, Mr. Lartey noted that hockey has, over the years, served as a platform for transforming the lives of the youth through job creation and career development. He, however, called on corporate entities and individuals to extend their support.
“Hockey is a sport that, when we channel the resources we put into other sports, I am very sure it will take us far. I am urging all institutions to help support the Ghana Hockey Association,” he stressed.
The Head of Sports at the Ghana Revenue Authority, Mr. Ebenezer Frimpong, who also doubles as CEO of Hockey Farm Sports, explained that the motive of the workshop was to equip coaches with the necessary knowledge and keep them abreast of current technical trends.
“The idea is to refresh the minds of the coaches and keep them informed with the latest updates and plans. This is to ensure they keep the development of the game growing,” he said.
Mr. Frimpong expressed optimism about the total development of the sport, envisioning Ghana rising to match current champions on the African continent and globally. He said the first step toward achieving this goal is ensuring coaches are well‑informed.
“At the moment, Ghana is mainly placed third on the continent in the men’s category and second in the women’s. We want to set ourselves a target that in the next two to three years, we should be able to move from those positions to higher heights,” he stated.
Participants who spoke after the workshop commended the organisers for the knowledge shared. According to them, the programme has broadened their understanding and deepened their interest in the sport, and they called for more of such initiatives.
To acknowledge their efforts, the coaches were presented with certificates of completion, symbolising their commitment and dedication to the sport.
