Ghanaian reggae-dancehall musician Stonebwoy has donated GH¢100,000 to the national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, as they prepare for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.

The musician made the donation during a courtesy visit to the team at Mensah Sarbah Park at the University of Ghana last Friday.

Stonebwoy, who also tried his skills with the ball during the visit, said he had previously used crutches to walk, adding that disability should never be a source of ridicule.

He condemned those who make fun of people living with disabilities, describing such behaviour as a sign of immaturity and ignorance.

“Nothing about disability is funny,” he stressed.

The musician urged the Black Challenge to give their best at the tournament and encouraged Ghanaians to support the team as they would the senior national football team, the Black Stars.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the players but noted that their experiences could inspire and bring blessings to others.

Mrs Farida Iddris, an executive member of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and the Ghana Swimming Association, received the donation alongside the team’s captain.

The Black Challenge head to Mexico aiming to build on their success on the African continent, having won three continental titles in 2021, 2023 and 2025.

The team will travel to Turkey for their final preparations before moving to San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, for the tournament.

Ghana have been drawn in the same group as Iraq, Angola and Colombia and will be hoping to translate their continental dominance into global success.

President of the African Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform well at the championship.
