Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has accused the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of prioritising the Black Stars at the expense of domestic football development.
Speaking on Akoma FM, Vanderpuye questioned the direction of the country's football administration, arguing that excessive focus on the senior national team was undermining the growth of local clubs.
“The current football association is the Ghana Black Stars association and not the Ghana Football Association,” he said.
Vanderpuye also warned that traditional rivals Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak could struggle to win the Ghana Premier League in the coming years if the current situation persists.
“The current football system is affecting clubs like Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. If we fail to address these issues, there is no way these two clubs will win the league in the next five years,” he added.
His comments come amid renewed debate over the GFA's priorities and calls for greater investment in domestic football.
Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are among Ghana's most successful and widely supported clubs, but Vanderpuye believes the existing system is making it increasingly difficult for them to compete for the league title.
His remarks have added to discussions about how the GFA can balance the demands of the Black Stars with the development of domestic clubs and the wider football structure.
The debate centres on whether greater attention to the senior national team is being matched by efforts to strengthen the domestic league and create a sustainable foundation for Ghanaian football.
