Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu says the poor state of sports infrastructure is undermining the appeal of Ghanaian football.
The former Accra Great Olympics midfielder has raised concerns about the condition of playing facilities across the country, arguing that inadequate infrastructure is affecting the domestic game.
“The poor infrastructure is making our football less attractive,” the former Udinese midfielder told Ahenfie FM.
His comments come amid growing calls for investment in stadiums and playing pitches to improve the quality of football in Ghana.
Hearts of Oak head coach Nebojsa Kapor recently identified the lack of quality playing surfaces as one of the major challenges facing the sport, adding to concerns about the condition of pitches used in the Ghana Premier League.
Former Asante Kotoko coach Eric Tinkler also criticised the state of football infrastructure in the country before leaving the club.
The concerns raised by Agyemang-Badu and the two coaches have renewed calls for improvements to stadiums, training grounds and other facilities to enhance playing conditions and make the domestic league more attractive.
Ghana’s stadium infrastructure has also come under scrutiny over its suitability for international football, with the Accra Sports Stadium currently the only venue approved for CAF and FIFA matches.
