The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to receive $700,000 annually from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following a significant increase in financial support to its 54 member associations.

CAF has raised the annual allocation from $200,000 to $700,000 per association, providing an additional $500,000 to each federation to support football development across the continent.

The increase more than triples the previous allocation and is intended to strengthen the financial position of national associations, improve football administration and create more opportunities for players at all levels.

Under the new arrangement, CAF would distribute a total of $37.8m annually if all 54 member associations receive the full allocation. This compares with $10.8m under the previous funding structure, representing an annual increase of $27m.

The move aligns with CAF president Patrice Motsepe's stated commitment to strengthening national associations and investing in the development of African football.

Many federations across the continent face financial constraints that limit their ability to organise domestic competitions, develop young players and improve administrative structures.

The increased funding is expected to provide additional resources for grassroots football, youth development, domestic leagues and national teams, while helping associations build more sustainable football systems.

However, the impact of the increased allocation will depend on how effectively the funds are managed and invested. Transparent financial practices and clear development priorities will be crucial to ensuring the money delivers meaningful improvements.

Stronger national associations are considered essential to the long-term growth of African football, particularly as the continent seeks to improve its competitiveness internationally and create better pathways for emerging talent.

Further details on when the new funding arrangement will take effect and any conditions attached to the allocation have not been provided.
