President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Ghana Police Service for its efforts to combat crime, pointing to a decline in unresolved murder cases and highway robberies as evidence of progress in improving public safety.
Addressing officers at the commissioning of an 85-bed ward complex at the Police Hospital in Accra on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the President urged the police administration to maintain its efforts to protect lives and property.
He commended the leadership and personnel of the Service for their work, expressing the government’s appreciation for their contribution to national security.
“This police administration is doing a yeoman’s job and as Commander-in-Chief and president of the Republic, I want to express the gratitude of our nation to all of you and urge you to keep up the good work,” he said.
President Mahama also assured the Police Service of the government’s continued support, particularly in providing the logistical resources needed to strengthen its operations.
He linked the country’s reputation for safety to the work of the police and said the government would continue to equip the Service to carry out its responsibilities effectively.
“It is no wonder everybody wants to visit Ghana, because people say it is the safest country in the whole of West Africa and I can assure you that we will continue to provide you with the logistics that you need to continue to do your job,” he added.
