Black Starlets head coach Kassim Ocansey says he expected more from his players despite Ghana's 1-0 victory over Togo in their opening match at the 2026 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
David Kwarteng scored the decisive goal in the seventh minute to give Ghana all three points in the Group A encounter.
However, Ocansey was left wanting more from his side after they failed to convert several scoring opportunities during the match.
“We won, but I expected more from my boys,” Ocansey said after the game.
“We created good chances, but we couldn't convert. I am happy we have the three points, but we could have done better with the chances we created,” he added.
The Ghana coach believes his team have the attacking quality to score more goals but insists they must improve their finishing in subsequent matches.
“If we are able to convert the chances we create, we can get three or four goals in every game. We'll work on that ahead of our next game,” he said.
The victory gives Ghana a positive start to their campaign as they seek to qualify for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations through the WAFU Zone B Championship.
Ocansey's side will face Benin in their next Group A fixture on Tuesday, with the coach hoping his players can build on their opening win and show greater efficiency in front of goal.
